On the go, driving in the car, or out for a run? Now you can listen to this newsletter, dictated by ME:)
This is something new, so tell me what you think.
Hey, Reader,
How’s the month treating you?
We’re creeping toward Thanksgiving, and I’ve barely thought about what I’m making. And since it’s our turn to host this year…I should probably figure that out. 😅
But what's been catching my attention instead?
My LinkedIn content from the last 365 days.
Not the surface-level “that post did well” kind of thing, but really digging into the data, what worked, what didn’t, and what actually created movement in my business.
And it got me wondering…
Do you look at the data behind your LinkedIn posts?
If you don’t, this is actually a great time of year to pause, breathe, and reflect on what you’ve published before 2026 rolls around.
And if you don’t know where to find your post analytics, here’s the quick step-by-step below. (Feel free to skip if you already know!)
🔍How to Find Your LinkedIn Post Analytics (Step-by-Step)
Step 1: Go to your LinkedIn homepage
- You should see your profile photo and the “Start a post” box near the top.
Step 2: Click on your profile
- Either click your profile photo or your name to go to your profile page.
Step 3: Look for “Analytics” under your headline
-
On your profile, under your headline and location, you should see a box with numbers like:
- “Profile views”
- “Post impressions”
- “Search appearances”
- Click on "post impressions"
Step 4: You'll land on "Posts" under Analytics
Step 5: Adjust the time range
- It should default to "Past 7 days," but to see the data from the last year, select "Past 365 days," and then click "Show Results."
Step 6: Scroll down to check out posts
- It should default to impressions, and you'll see your top posts in most popular to least popular order.
Okay, so here’s what my own data is telling me…
📊 Impressions vs Engagement
(Two very different things.)
Quick refresher...
Impressions = estimated eyeballs on your post
Engagement = reactions, comments, reposts
Both matter, but for different reasons.
And in my own breakdown?
There was a noticeable difference in the post content that got the most impressions and the ones that got the most engagement.
Let’s start with impressions…
🔥 My Highest-Impression Posts of the Year
#1. That video with 90,592 impressions (crazy?!)
This was at the end of 2024, emphasizing the importance of "less is more" when it comes to content on your website. This was when I was doing a lot more SEO content writing for websites.
LinkedIn was aggressively promoting video at this time. And I haven’t hit that number since. The algorithm honestly doesn't favor video very much, but hey…
That's not the only reason to do video.
My #1 reason for doing videos these days is to give those watching an idea of what it would be like to talk with me. I find videos to be more personal than text posts. And I even talked about my video-creation process in this issue.
#2. An off-the-cuff “I got distracted on LinkedIn again” post (2,700 impressions)
I wrote about how I popped onto LinkedIn just to check something for a client…and two seconds later, I’m deep into someone else’s post I wasn’t even looking for.
It's quite possible that LinkedIn gives me ADHD of sorts.
But cue dozens of comments from people saying, “Same!!!”
And I have to wonder if, because I mentioned the word "love" and "LinkedIn" in the first 7 words, that may have made a difference when getting it picked up and throttled to be in front of more people organically? Hmmmmm.....
Who knows...but this topic seemed to resonate.
#3. A LinkedIn Transformation Package story (2,371 impressions)
This one started with the story of how I almost didn’t go to a speaking event…and ended up meeting the client featured in the post.
It was 100% a conversion post for me because I got several inbound leads after sharing it, which I talked about in more detail in this issue. Several factors I think played into it.
But a big goal of mine in 2026 is to make sure I'm showcasing more of the work...and more of my clients...to help us ALL grow in the new year.
💬 And Then There’s Engagement… (Where the Real Fun Happens)
Spoiler: LinkedIn loves puppies and negative news.
Not a shocker, but still funny to see in the data.
#1. The post introducing Chili and Sabrina (212 engagements)
Apparently, our new Yorkie mini (Chili) and Yorkie-Poo mini (Sabrina) completely stole the show in my post this past summer.
And I think most of you must be huge fans of dogs! Yay...I've found my people:)
You had some kind things to say, and let's be real...who doesn't love pictures of puppies?! It's like seeing cute babies.
#2. Losing my main retainer client (185 engagements)
Seven months ago, I shared a tough moment: one of my biggest revenue sources disappeared overnight.
Many of you empathized with it.
And even though what happened at the time didn't feel great, it created a turning point in my business, which allowed me to push deeper into LinkedIn personal brand packages (which is what I loved most) instead of SEO work I was doing.
I have found that those who succeed on this path are the ones who can take a challenge and pivot into an opportunity.
#3. The “how to botch a podcast” newsletter promo (168 engagements)
Yep...puppies again...or Chili to be exact.
But I also admitted here that I completely messed up!
And I didn't get to be featured on the podcast because mid-recording, Chili wouldn't stop barking, but you know what?...
It made for great content with my newsletter, and people loved the newsletter teaser post on LinkedIn.
If anything, I've learned from great creators...your mistakes actually make for excellent content! And the data certainly supports this as well.
🤔 So What Does All This Actually Mean?
For me, it was a reminder of something I’ve known…but needed to see again in black and white...
You need a healthy mix of high-impression and high-engagement content.
High impressions = more reach
High engagement = more connection
Both = a stronger personal brand
With both forms of content…that’s where the magic typically happens. You get to dig in deeper with those who already know you (high engagement), and you get to invite others in to get to know you further (high impression).
💭 Now Back to You
If you look back at your own last 6–12 months of content…
Which posts built your reach?
Which posts built your relationships?
And are you creating enough of both in the future?
It might be the perfect time to do your own little content audit before 2026:)
If you do, reach out and let me know what you discover!
