Inside the Issue:

✍️ TOFU Content Isn't Dead.

β˜• Fill Your Cup: Training for Optimism

Hey there, Reader,

If you're new here, welcome! My name is Allison Ditmer.

I'm a 15-year ex-corporate marketer embracing the freelance life (the pay cut, uncertainty) all for the opportunity to build my own content business and spend more time with my kids.

Has it been easy?...

Not...AT...ALL 😳

But I'm here to share my content knowledge and my journey.

Don't get me wrong...

I love what I do, and I've grown in more ways than I ever realized these last couple of years.

Thanks for reading:)

✍️ TOFU Content Isn't Dead.

(You just need to write it better.)

What's TOFU?...

Top of the Funnel Content.

This is the awareness content. Think "how to" blogs and guides.

With AI-generated content flooding search results, it’s easy to believe you should stop writing TOFU content.

But I'm here to say...Don't Listen!

TOFU still has its' place...you just have to make it BETTER than AI.

5 Ways to Make Money Freelance Writing is a TOFU article on my site today that has brought in over 85,000+ impressions and 3,600+ clicks in just the last 90 days.

Here's what I encourage you to do to create better TOFU content yourself...

Think Like a Web Searcher, Not Just a Writer

AI-written content scrapes the web, but you're human.

YOU can go deeper.

Find real gaps. Look at the β€œPeople Also Ask" section, Reddit, and forums to discover unanswered questions you can address in your article.

The "People Also Ask" section is how I found the following questions people are searching for:

  • Can you really make money as a freelancer?
  • Can I make a $1,000 month freelance writing?
  • What exactly is online writing?

Then, write responses to these questions, including information from your actual experiences...

Prioritize Depth Over Word Count

AI churns out long, fluffy articles.

But Google prioritizes useful content with value to offer.

βœ… Be concise but powerful. Channel brevity 😁

βœ… Layer in expertise. Use original research, expert quotes, or firsthand experiences.

βœ… Make it actionable. Readers should leave with a clear takeaway.

In my article, I highlighted some actionable items I did (and you can do) to make money as a freelance writer...

#1 - Write social media posts on LinkedIn!

#2 - Convert a project-based client into a retainer client.

#3 - Apply for part-time writing jobs.

#4 - Cold-pitch an online publication.

#5 - Get passive income from Medium.com

Showcase Your Humanity

AI lacks the one thing that makes content resonate: human experience.

Would you rather read a lifeless AI article or content that makes you nod along and feel understood?

(Give me the emotion-filled, human-injected articles any day!)

πŸ”Έ Write with personality. Be engaging, relatable, and real.

πŸ”Έ Share your wins, failures, and lessons learned.

πŸ”Έ Build connection by being a bit vulnerable.

πŸ‘‰ Pro Tip: Your failures can get you some of the most attention if you're willing to write about them.

Optimize for Google’s Priorities

Google is shifting toward content that:

βœ”οΈ Demonstrates real experience (hands-on insights, unique knowledge)

βœ”οΈ Engages readers (clear structure, easy-to-skim formatting)

βœ”οΈ Builds authority over time (consistent, high-quality content)

To stand out with all of these mentioned:

βœ… Use structured formatting (headings, bullet points, summaries).

βœ… Write compelling intros (hook readers fast with a true story).

βœ… Include internal links (connect related content to strengthen SEO).

Extend Your Content’s Reach

Don't allow great TOFU content to sit on your blog without being repurposed and optimized with a clear next step for your readers.

πŸ“Œ Repurpose it into a LinkedIn, FB, or X thread.

πŸ“Œ Encourage engagement with a question.

πŸ“Œ Offer a CTA focused on conversion.

For my article, I have a clear callout at the bottom encouraging others to sign up for this newsletter you're reading right now...

I've also used tips from it for LinkedIn posts targeted towards freelancers.

The Takeaway

TOFU isn't dead.

It needs to include more expertise, experiences, and human-driven stories.

All of this will attract and nurture your audience. So before your next blog post, ask yourself...

πŸ’‘ How can I make this better than AI?

The answer...

πŸ‘‰ More depth. More originality. More you.

I needed to watch this video again this week.

(And wow, I can't wait for short sleeves outside again 🌞)

Being optimistic is something I'm better at as I get older, but it has required intentional work to get here.

Setting yourself up for a more optimistic mindset takes 3 things...

🎯 3 good things that have happened today.

And these don't have to be big things.

The other night, I started complaining about doing dishes because my hands were so dry.

But then I caught myself and told my mom on the phone...

"Honestly, I just need to be thankful the Lord has given me the body to stand here and do these dishes."

That may sound silly, but reframing and saying it out loud instantly put me in a more grateful mindset.

I do believe you can train for optimism and gratitude.

πŸ‘‰ What do you think?

What's going on in your life?

Drop me a line and tell me your biggest challenge for the week.

Mine...lining up my next client!
