✍️ The Power of the Follow-Up (And why most miss it!)

Reader,

Let’s talk about what really builds relationships and trust on LinkedIn.

Because at the heart of any goal you have...

Whether it's to grow authority as a CEO

Build your business as a founder

Or open the door to another career opportunity...

You've got to demonstrate some form of likability and trust.

And on LinkedIn...

It’s not the viral post.
It’s not the perfect hook.
But it’s what happens after someone engages with your content.

I’m talking about the follow-up.

Most people hit “post,” check their notifications, and move on with their day.

On to the next post to write!

But when someone takes time to like or comment on your content, that’s a micro-invitation.

They’re saying, “Hey, this resonated with me.”

And most of the time? That signal gets ignored.

You get busy and caught up in creating more content for the week ahead.

It happens to all of us. Me included!

But here’s what I'm intentionally trying to do more of these days (and what I recommend to my clients)...

Pay attention.

Look at who’s consistently showing up and liking, commenting, and engaging.

Ask yourself...Is this someone I’d love to know better? Serve? Collaborate with?

If the answer is yes, follow up.

But not with a pitch...

With a voice note or written direct message (inmail message) that acknowledges the moment.

Something like...

“Hey, I saw you liked my recent post on building a personal brand that actually converts. Thanks for the engagement! I checked out your profile and love what you’re doing with [insert detail]. If you're ever up for a coffee chat, I’d love to connect beyond the comments.”

Simple. Intentional. Human.

Here’s what happens when you do this:

  • People feel seen
  • You become more noticeable
  • You shift from “just another person posting” to “the one who followed up thoughtfully.”

And that’s what great brand experiences are built on...the small, consistent moments of intentionality.

It’s not magic.
But it does take effort and a different focus.

And most people won’t do it.

Which is exactly why you should.

So try this today...

Scroll through the comments or likes on your last post.

Pick 3 names.

Send 3 short, intentional DMs or voice notes.

That’s it. Start there.

You might be surprised how far a little follow-up can go.

Remember, you don’t need a massive audience or thousands of followers to see growth. You just need to be willing to start more meaningful conversations.

This is how you build trust, momentum, and long-term business growth on LinkedIn and beyond.

I can’t remember where I first heard this...

But it’s become a daily mantra.

👉 What if you swapped “I have to” with “I get to”?

“I have to exercise…”

No...I get to.

I get to have a body that allows me to move and sweat.

“I have to take my son to soccer practice…”

No...I get to.

I get to jump in the car, watch him for 90 minutes, and see him loving what he does.

The shift is a subtle change in mindset. But the impact?

Profound.

This has made the biggest difference in my life as a solopreneur as well.

I've worked in the 9-5 for 15 years, and now I GET to try this different path.

Nothing is guaranteed to me, but I can be grateful in this moment...

Grateful for the bumpy ride for what it is and what it's teaching me.

So the next time your day feels like a list of things you have to do…

Try to tell yourself how much you get to do these things ❤️
