Hey, Reader,
Happy New Year!
I truly do hope it's how you're viewing this day...this month...and the year ahead...
A happy one.
But if you've got doubts, it's ok.
With new beginnings, the pressure can feel real to "go big or go home."
And I think a lot of people on LinkedIn are feeling a little disgruntled, with thoughts like...
"Is showing up even worth the effort?"
So let's back up a minute and let me share a confession with you.
Story Time...
There was a point in my business, in August of 2024, to be exact, where I seriously questioned whether the time I was putting into showing up on LinkedIn was actually paying off.
Financially, I was nowhere close to where I wanted to be.
My income was nothing to be proud of, especially compared to what I had in 2021, when I left my 15-year corporate career.
And I had just lost out on a ghostwriting opportunity...second place out of more than 700 applicants.
You bet I felt low to be so close.
I still remember where I was when I heard the news.
I was sitting in a movie theater with my sister watching "It Ends With Us." And I didn’t move as the end credits started. I just sat there as tears streamed down my face, reading the email on my phone.
Part movie.
Part life.
Part feeling massive rejection.
And I remember thinking, "Is my business ever going to take off?"
And I think in moments like this is when many say..."That's it! I'm done with posting, and I'm applying to more full-time jobs."
But I didn't do that...
Despite everything, deep down, I just couldn't.
Because something kept telling me I wasn't done yet.
And here’s what I've learned since that moment in the theater...
The payoff from LinkedIn rarely shows up in the timeframe you desire.
All the likes and impressions don't mean more money in the bank.
And the ones who win...generally are the ones who stick with it when the valleys are very real.
For me, a positive shift in my business started showing up towards the end of last year, honestly. Each quarter in 2025 was financially better than the last.
And when I broke the months down, trying to see what accounted for my growth...I really had just one core habit to thank...
My posting and engagement on LinkedIn.
Yes, really.
It's on the platform where I found a couple of CMOs I work with on retainer, serving small-business clients who want to level up their content marketing game.
I've also learned about in-person events that have led me to speak on stages. In turn, clients have met me in person, which has led to "yes's" for my LinkedIn Transformation Package.
Posting on LinkedIn isn’t about chasing an immediate payoff, but it's really about reducing friction later.
I've seen this happen to my clients and to me.
When you show up consistently at any sustainable level, you’re laying the groundwork for a foundation...
- Making future conversations easier
- Letting people understand how you think before they ever talk to you
- Staying top of mind when opportunities are the right fit for all parties
That work compounds, even when it feels like growth is slow-moving.
Some Honest Encouragement
So here's me trying to reassure you that, even though it feels really hard right now... don't be so quick to be done.
Continue to show up in the room...
The room on LinkedIn...and rooms in real life that you find out about from LinkedIn.
Because the people who will benefit most from the platform this year aren’t the ones expecting an instant payoff.
They’re the ones who know that building relationships requires intentional time, with more listening and showing genuine interest.
So keep posting.
Don't stop engaging.
And if you need help...reply now.
Send me a sentence...a paragraph, and I promise to get back to you.
P.S. Tired of wondering why LinkedIn isn’t bringing in clients? With my LinkedIn Transformation Package, you’ll receive a done-for-you system including an optimized profile page, strategic content plan, with one-on-one engagement coaching to help you finally start seeing results.
