As someone who’s built her business 100% from LinkedIn, I see so many small business owners miss out on connection opportunities simply because they don’t quite know how to leverage LinkedIn’s search features effectively.
And knowing what I know about SEO, LinkedIn is far from being just a social network; it’s also a search engine, much like Google.
And if you treat it like one, you can find just the people you want to work with.
3 Key Steps to Start Finding Clients for Free
For starters, you've got to...
1.Get Crystal Clear on Your ICP​
Before you even search, you need to know exactly who you’re looking for.
Hint: “Anyone who needs my services” isn’t a strategy.
It's worth taking the pause to identify who your ideal client is...and if you're struggling, take a look at those you've worked with.
Ask yourself...
Who was great to work with?
What made them that way?
Who gave you no problems with payment?
And who was excellent at getting back to you?
That can give you some clues into who your ideal client profile (ICP) is, and help you put together characteristics (such as business title, years in business, industry, etc.) to look for when you're doing your keyword search.

2. Use Keywords + Boolean Search​
Combine job titles, industries, and locations to quickly narrow results.
Example...
If I were looking for CEOs or founders in professional services and could benefit from my LinkedIn content and coaching package, I would type in...

​"CEO OR Founder"
right into that search box from my picture above with the red arrow.
And then click on "all filters"...

+ filter by Location: Columbus, OH (for example, keeping it local)

and
scroll down some
to filter by Industry: Professional Services
and then...
(here's one of my favorite filters) Connections of
This filter lets you tap into the network of one of your best clients...someone who has already given you a glowing testimonial and would be happy to refer you to others.
Simply type their name into the text box and hit Submit after applying your filters.
When I tried this with one of my recent ideal clients, LinkedIn served up four highly targeted pages of potential leads I could start connecting with today.

3. Save Your Leads with a Simple System
But don’t just connect and forget.
Organize your leads in a basic Google Sheet with columns for status, name, title, LinkedIn URL, and notes so you can track conversations and follow-ups.
These steps alone can help you grow your pipeline without spending a dime.
