Hey [First Name],

Maybe you’re posting on LinkedIn...

Sharing valuable insights...

But are you optimizing your content for search?

You know...making it easy for the LinkedIn algorithm to prioritize your content.

I'm sure you want to improve your reach, right?

Well, I have some intentional ways you can become more discoverable.

Use Strategic Keywords in Your Profile

Before we even talk about posts, let’s make sure your profile is optimized.

Headline Copy

Are you using terms in your headline that you see in job descriptions of the positions or type of work you want?

Or are you highlighting the phrases your ICP's often use to describe what you do?

This is mine...

Keyword phrases:

  • LinkedIn
  • Content strategist
  • Writer
  • "Optimize your LinkedIn profile + content"

Conduct some searches and double down on those conversations with your ICPs to discover these phrases, and then make sure they're in your headline copy.

About Section

Your About section should naturally include industry-relevant terms around top pain points or topics you know your audience is searching for related to your work.

Not only does this help with search, but it also shows you're listening to the ICPs you want to reach.

You know...more about them...and not so much about you.

Skills Section

The skills section highlights the top 5 keywords that best relate to you and your work.

Mine are...

Pick 5 that best describe how you can help clients. These definitely can be referenced by LinkedIn's algorithm for SEO.

Write Posts That Align with What People Search

Do some research inside and outside the platform.

Think about what your ideal client or audience is searching for on LinkedIn.

Are they looking for β€œB2B marketing tips,” β€œhealth and wellness workplace practices," or POVs on industry trends?

YouTube is an excellent place to check out the most viewed content relevant to your audience.

Make notes of the topics and phrases referenced.

Then write posts based on YOUR take on these topics. Talk about what matters to your audience but can also be layered in with your personal experience.

Sprinkle in key phrases, but don't overdo it.

No one enjoys reading a whole lotta marketing jargon with no personality.

Always write how you speak.

Optimize Your Newsletters & Articles

If you write long-form content on LinkedIn (think newsletters & articles), treat it like a well-formatted SEO blog post, keeping structure and keywords in mind.

Prioritize the keyword phrase in your title.

Use subheadings to break up the text.

(LinkedIn articles rank in Google search too!)

My friend, Andy, recently discussed this example of an article he wrote on LinkedIn and its visibility on Google.

Remember to add a clear CTA at the end of your long-form content.

The CTA could be asking your reader to comment, share, visit your services page, or check out your profile.

You never want to skip providing a "next action" for the person reading.

Engagement Boosts Searchability

The more engagement your content gets, the more LinkedIn pushes it up in search results.

Have you noticed how LinkedIn now shows you how many impressions your comments have?

At the end of your posts, you can ask open-ended questions to invite comments and further engagement from those reading.

Always reply to every comment to keep the conversation going.

But for increased reach...

Proactively read others' posts and intentionally comment.

Others then read your comemnts, click over to view your profile and/or your posts.

Ta da! More visibility.

Don’t Forget Video

The LinkedIn algorithm also loves videos right now.

If you want more impressions, do video. Looking at the last 365 days, my top two posts are videos.

Here's #1 currently (90,000+ impressions)...

They've blown my other posts out of the water purely looking at impressions.

But I get that not everyone is an on-camera person.

However, if you've been mulling this idea over, I say do it. Stop overthinking and hit record from your phone.

Focus on one tip for 1 minute.

Think back to your ICP and a question you've heard over and over and address it.

That's an excellent place to start.

Final Thoughts

If you want more inbound leads and visibility on LinkedIn, SEO shouldn't be ignored.

LinkedIn is a search platform just like Google, which means SEO matters.

Small tweaks can significantly affect how often the right people find you.

Start by making one simple change today.

You can...

  • Optimize your headline
  • Focus on creating one post with a keyword phrase included
  • Think about writing an optimized article to post on LinkedIn
  • Leave 5 comments on 5 different posts in the next 10 minutes
  • Stop overthinking video, hit record, and publish

Just take action:)

β˜• Fill Your Cup

On Monday, I discussed recently losing a retainer client, and it seemed to resonate with many people.

Parting ways with great clients is never easy.

And even worse when it's not your choice.

But in this world of building your business, it comes with the territory.

It's not personal.

It's business.

But there's a bigger point I wanted to make.

Perspective changes everything.
